Luk Berghe
Utopia Collection
1 March - 28 April 2012
Architectural Research Studio MARS will be hosting Luk Berghe's exhibition called "Utopia Collection". In the series of Utopia Collection that Belgian artist Berghe created with the watercolor technique on paper is telling a story of civilization and barbarism arm in arm, and asking the questions about the role of architecture through the themes of modernism, utopia, capitalism, colonialism, ecology. In a most general sense, as the act of creating the environment we live in, is architecture just to build a form in a space? Can we ignore the plain and properly designed spaces of the modern architecture's that functions as a cover of element of crime? Although the life of a structure is referred in the past by hundreds or even thousands of years, today it almost referred in decimal numbers - why? Could post–Fordist mode of production maybe the reason? If so, is architecture being only activity of creating a form, or rather is it an activity of forming a process.
Luk Berghe has a background in performance art and his performance called "Occupy ..." will be at MARS on March 1, at 19.00. The "Utopia Collection" exhibition is organised as a part of the Architectural Research Studio.
Curated by Pınar Ögrenci.
