For the 18th Biennale of Sydney, artistic directors Catherine De Zegher and Gerald MacMaster chose six artists from Belgium: Alexis Destoop, Honoré d'O, Ann Veronica Janssens, Ria Verhaeghe, Sarah Vanagt and Katrien Vermeire. This Biennale will also present two works by the Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker: En Atendant (2010) and Cesena (2011), both performed by the Rosas dance company.
The 18th Biennale of Sydney, entitled all our relations, intends to focus on inclusive practices of generative thinking, such as collaboration, conversation and compassion, in the face of coercion and destruction. With the creation of conditions for an encounter in consonance with the world around us, this event will add emphasis to what is already happening on a broader scale. Drawing on the possibility of the present, the Biennale will grow out of the commitment of all the participants by using a model that begins with two curators in dialogue. This matrix of conversation will extend to both artists and audiences in a multi-vocal correspondence.
